About Salzburg College

History

jSalzburg College is a small, private Austrian institution. Through an affiliation with Northern Illinois University and a number of other U.S. institutions, American college students receive regular transferable credit for their academic work in Salzburg. The language of instruction is English. In the past 38 years some 5,000 students have attended Salzburg College programs, representing more than 250 American colleges and universities.

In addition to the semester/year program, Salzburg College also conducts summer programs, including a European Studies Program in May/June and a Music Performance Program for the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Florida, in July/August during the time of the Salzburg Festival.

Location and Study Center

kThe Salzburg College study center is located in the heart of the Old City. It occupies a 16th century town house, situated on Ursulinenplatz, a small square flanked by a historic city gate and one of Salzburg's famous Baroque churches. The top floor library offers a spectacular view of the city across the pleasant embankments of the Salzach river. The five-story building includes classrooms, offices, library, lounge, and dining room, music practice space, photo labs and an art studio that can also serve as a gallery. Students have classes, study, and take their lunches at the College.

The close vicinity of public, educational and cultural institutions allows for easy integration of classroom study and on-site experience, which is a major objective of the Salzburg College program. The University Library and other research facilities (e.g. Mozart Archives) are all located in easy walking distance. Ursulinenplatz is also just down the street from the main intersecting point of the Salzburg public bus system, which greatly facilitates the commute to and from the Austrian host family homes.

“The location of the College is great! I liked being able to walk to school every day. Its proximity to the Altstadt, the river, and Mirabellplatz really allowed me to just explore the town in my free time.”
-- Kristi Romanko, Hardin Simmons University

Home-cooked Meals

kDelicious home-cooked lunches are served at the College every weekday. Breakfast and dinner are served by the host families at home. All meals are included in the program cost.

“From day one to the end of the semester, there was never a moment when the faculty and staff at Salzburg College did not make me feel welcome and at home. Nor was there ever a day at Salzburg College when Brigitte’s cooking was not unbelievably delicious; nor did I ever leave hungry.”
-- Andrew Pyle, Ouachita Baptist University
