Academic Credit
If your home university has a direct or consortium affiliation with Salzburg College, your Salzburg transcript will be automatically approved by your home university. Each partner institution establishes its own equivalencies for Salzburg College courses. If your home university does not have an affiliation with Salzburg College, you may receive a U.S. transcript by applying to Salzburg College through Northern Illinois University (See: Academic Credit).
Please note: It is important that you clear your course registration with your advisor to make sure that your credits are approved for your specific major or concentration requirements.
Financial Aid
Scholarships, federal grants, and student loans awarded on a cash basis can normally be applied to program costs. Contact the director of Student Financial Aid at your home institution for specific information. If you are applying through Northern Illinois University, they will cooperate in setting up a Consortium Agreement under which your home institution processes financial aid, and forwards the proceeds to NIU. A Consortium Agreement allows students to have a counselor at their home institution to work with them.
Transatlantic Transportation
Low-cost group flights to Europe are available.
The program begins in Frankfurt, where participants are met by Salzburg College staff and proceed on the initial field/study trip through Germany by bus.
Orientation Materials
After your application has been processed, you will receive a STUDENT HANDBOOK with practical information that will help you prepare for your semester abroad. This will include information on how to obtain your Austrian Visa. If you have additional questions, you can contact Salzburg College directly. After you arrive in Salzburg, you will receive another handbook with detailed information related to your life and activities in Salzburg.
Contact with Former Students
Salzburg College will gladly provide e-mail addresses of former students who would be happy to discuss their experiences with you.
